Sr. Mechanical Engineer

General Position Summary: 

Systems Engineer for large-scale security systems that integrate multiple sensors (video, radar, etc.) into a comprehensive Command & Control-centric security system.  System integrates high-speed data networking, redundant computer systems, multi-technology sensor suites, mobile information systems, and customer-specific CONOPS to deliver turnkey security solutions. 

Major Responsibilities & Tasks: 

  • Supports engineering in design, build, and test of mechanical housings, fixtures and assemblies
  • Produce thermal and structural studies to determine feasibility of concepts and evaluation of boundary conditions
  • Support reliability and quality organizations with reliability and availability analyses
  • Perform tolerance analysis in electronics housing assemblies
  • Assist in debugging new product prototypes
  • Assist in turning new products from prototypes into pilot-runs
  • Work with management to evaluate cost improvement projects, manufacturing techniques, and automation and outsourcing opportunities
  • Maintain proper documentation of mechanical designs
  • Assist supply chain management with vendor audits and selections
  • Evaluate, debug, and implement solutions to manufacturing issues
  • Support prototype and direct production launch activities
  • Work with outside vendors for the manufacture of mechanical housings

Accountabilities: (key roles and responsibilities for this position)

  • Develop/ update requirements and architecture, build interfaces and project performance analyses for advanced, large-scale security systems.

  • Analyze functional requirements and generate Software Requirement Specifications (SRS) and System Segment Specifications (SSS)

  • Develop/ update Interface Control Drawings (ICDs), Specification Control Drawings, (SCDs), and specify COTS product requirements.

  • Support QA and procurement to resolve vendor problems.

  • Work with procurement to insure vendor meets requirements.

  • Support validation of requirements through user research and testing with customers

  • Create and update system designs and conceptual drawings

  • Create and update detailed systems drawings including equipment interconnects including power, signal control, video, data and IP network.               

  • Develop nomenclature and schemes for interconnect identification

  • Develop update maintenance concepts.

  • Support generation of system documentation including narrative and illustrations. System performance and operation maintenance manuals

Job Specifications: 

Knowledge:

Licensure, Accreditation, Certification of Degree(s) required:

Experience:

  •     7-10 years of MCAD and mechanical hardware design experience

  •     Experience with MIL environmental qualification standards

  •     Working knowledge of fabrication methods such as machining, sheet metal fabrications, plastics machining, casting and extrusions

  •     Proficient with Pro Engineer, SolidWorks or equivalent 3D modeling software

  •     Analytical knowledge in stress, strain and thermal vibration calculations

  •     Knowledge in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing using ASME Y14.5M-1994

  •     Strong written and verbal communications skills for interaction with customers, clients and suppliers

  •     BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field of engineering

  •     Knowledge of FEA tools and processes a plus.

Required:

  • 5-10 Years experience

  • Experience in complex system of systems design and integration.

  • Familiarity with data networking

  • Familiarity with Command and Control systems

Skills/Aptitudes:

  •    Individual contributor capable of guiding a project from concept to completion.

  •    Self starter able to take responsibility to produce quality products with minimal guidance.

  •    Meticulous worker who gets it right the first time.

  •    Wizard with CAD tools capable of high output.

  •    Capable of handling all aspects of a mechanical/thermal design.

  •    Works well in a small team of multi-disciplined engineers.

  •    Entrepreneurial spirit to prevent errors and waste of cost and schedule.

  •    Willing to meet the demands of a growing company.

  •    Can-do, make-do attitude.

  • Desire to work unencumbered by the large company environment.
